MSDPO Sponsoring Second Annual MSDPO 5K Fun Run & Walk

Picture
Due to the success of our first 5K Fun Run & Walk in 2011, the MSDPO has agreed to take on the huge task of sponsoring the event again. This year's event will be held on April 14, 2012 (rain or shine) at the MSD campus. The event will begin at 9:00 a.m.

Like last year, the event will include 5K and 1 mile courses. Due to flooding concerns on the Stinson Creek Trail, a new route has been selected for this year. This new route will utilize the streets that circle the MSD campus.

Based on feedback we received from individuals last year, who said they would have participated if the price of registration had been less, the MSDPO has created a new registration opportunity. The "No Frills" registration allows participants to register for only $10.00. However, individuals registering under "No Frills" will not receive an event T-shirt.

If you are unable to attend the event, but would still like to be a part of it, we are once again offering sponsorship opportunities. Sponsors will be acknowledged on our web site and in the materials passed out to participants. You can also choose to remain anonymous.

To learn more about the event, register to participate, or make a sponsorship pledge, visit the Participant Information page. We hope to see you at this year's event!

MSDPO Coordinating Box Tops and My Coke Rewards Efforts

The MSDPO is collecting Box Tops and Coke Rewards points. The proceeds from both of these efforts will be used to help MSD teachers and staff purchase the items they need to provide the best educational opportunities for MSD students.

If you would like to help, select the Box Tops for Education or the My Coke Rewards links under Fundraising Opportunities on the left menu bar to learn how.

Applications Now Being Accepted for 2012 Missouri Youth Leadership Forum

_
The Governor's Council on Disability is now accepting applications for the 2012 Missouri Youth Leadership Forum, July 22-25, 2012, at the University of Missouri, Columbia.

The Missouri Youth Leadership Forum for Students with Disabilities is a unique career leadership-training program for high school juniors and seniors with disabilities. By serving as delegates from their communities at a three and a half day event, young people with disabilities cultivate leadership, citizenship, and social skills.

During the MYLF, youth delegates have the opportunity to:
* learn about disability history and culture
* participate in discussions concerning leadership career development skills as well as issues pertinent to persons with disabilities
* learn positive strategies from adult mentors and youth peers with disabilities
* learn about assistive technology
* visit Jefferson City to learn about the legislative process and meet with elected officials concerning policies and legislation that affect persons with disabilities

For more information about the annual Missouri Youth Leadership Forum for Students with Disabilities and the online application (which must be submitted by April 18), please visit the website at http://www.mo.gov/disability/gcd/ylf.htm.

If you have any questions, please contact the Governor's Council on Disability at 800-877-8249.
